Overseas fellowships schemes are open for scholars and fellows to visit Sri Lanka and engage in collaborative work

ADJUNCT PROFESSORSHIP

The Adjunct Professorship program in the OUSL envisages to attract global experts to enhance its academic standards. The program invites adjunct professors from the staff in prestigious universities or well-established industries to collaborate with faculty members in various disciplines, such as Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Education, Management Studies, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The appointment process is non-salaried, and status-only, and the program aims to enable outstanding scholars to contribute to the educational process, promote interdisciplinary approaches, and enhance the university’s international footprint.

Objective of the scheme

  1. Facilitate outstanding scholars in disciplines such as science and technology, business, media, social research, literature etc., to expand the university’s teaching and research scope, fostering a richer academic environment.
  2. Promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches in learning and research, thereby amplifying the impact of the OUSL in the sphere of higher education.
  3. Strengthen the capacities of both academics and students by establishing world-class platforms for teaching and research

Eligibility

  1. Possess a doctoral degree (or equivalent) or a holder of an academic position or a scholar of eminence in the field relevant to the proposed field of study.
  2. Being affiliated with a higher education institute (or research / professional services organization) recognized by the OUSL.
  3. Be able to work in English.
  4. Should have clear evidence that the prospective candidate is an accomplished scholar of his respective field and adds value to the strategic goals of the OUSL.
  5. Having secured financial assistance to cover the cost of travel, and other expenses to spend a substantial period annually in the OUSL.

Appointment process

  1. A prospective candidate may express his interest, or the Faculty / Department may propose a candidate by submitting the following documents to the Vice-chancellor of the OUSL.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications /scholarly work)
  3. Certificates confirming the academic background
  4. A letter of recommendation with the endorsement from the Head of the home institution (President, Dean, Rector, Chancellor or Vice Chancellor)
  5. Proof of nationality and a recent photograph (passport size) of the applicant
  6. A detailed description of the proposed research project /scholarly work/ field study.
  7. Recommendation and justification from the Dean / Head of Department where the prospective candidate plans to carry out a major part of the proposed work.

VISITING SCHOLARS / VISITING FELLOWS

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) provided opportunities for Visiting Scholars (VS) / Visiting Fellows (VF) from overseas to engage in advanced studies in partnership with the academics of the University in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences, Education, Management Studies and Humanities and Social Sciences

Eligibility

  1. Possess a Doctoral degree (or equivalent) or a holder of an academic position or a scholar of eminence in the field relevant to the proposed study
  2. In receipt of consent from the OUSL academic staff member who shall be a collaborator of the proposed study
  3. Being affiliated to a higher education institute (or research / professional services organisation) recognised by the OUSL
  4. Be able to work in English/Tamil or Sinhala
  5. Should have secured financial assistance to cover the cost of travel, and other expenses as stipulated by the OUSL

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC FELLOWSHIPS

The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) grants fellowships for international scholars who would like to engage in research/academic activities in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technological Sciences, Health Sciences, Education, Social Sciences and Humanities.

Objective of the Fellowship

This fellowship programme enables scholars from all over the world to undertake two – to three-months residencies at the OUSL. The programme aims to strengthen the international network of the OUSL and promote the OUSL’s research/academic collaboration with countries of the prospective fellows.

Eligibility

  1. Be an academic with not less than 5 years’ experience
  2. Possess a PhD degree (or equivalent)
  3. Have a letter of consent from the OUSL staff for collaboration.
  4. Be able to work in English

AAOU INTER-UNIVERSITY STAFF EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIP

In support of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) Inter-university Staff Exchange Fellowship Programme, The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is offering two short-term Fellowships to staff from AAOU member institutions. This programme is intended to provide a platform for capacity building and establishment of sustainable partnerships as well as fostering knowledge exchange and promotion of mutual understanding among staff of the Open Universities of Asia.

Eligibility

  1. Be an academic with not less than 5 years’ experience from an AAOU member
  2. Possess a Masters degree or above.
  3. Have a letter of consent from the OUSL staff for collaboration.
  4. Be able to work in English.

(v)  instructional design & development in Open and Distance Learning.

(vi)  University policy and strategies in reducing dropout rates.
