Welcome to the Faculty of Education of the Open University of Sri Lanka. I am delighted to extend my warm greetings as we commemorate a momentous occasion in the history of our esteemed Faculty. The Faculty of Education is proudly celebrating its 21st anniversary in 2024, marking two decades of unwavering commitment to excellence in education.

As the Dean of the Faculty of Education, it is both an honour and a privilege for me to share with you the remarkable achievements and advancements that define our academic journey. Our vision, rooted in the aspiration to be a leader in the advancement of knowledge and professional education practice, drives our commitment to fostering learning through open and distance education in Sri Lanka and the wider region.

Our faculty offers a diverse range of programmes, from certificate to postgraduate levels, aligning with our mission to cater to the diverse needs of learners. In response to the evolving landscape of education, we continuously evaluate and enhance our study programmes, introducing new programmes and short courses that address the ever-changing demands of the education sector.

Recognizing the imperative to equip educators with the necessary technological and pedagogical skills for the 21st century, we are developing two new programmes: the Bachelor of Education in Learning Design, and Technology, and the Master of Learning Design, and Technology. These programmes are designed to empower our graduates to excel as forward-thinking and technologically adept teaching professionals.

The Faculty of Education has witnessed a significant surge in its research culture, culminating in the recognition of four academics with the prestigious OUSL Research Awards for the year 2023. Moreover, the dedication and scholarly contributions of our faculty members have resulted in well-deserved promotions.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his invaluable advice and guidance, which has played a pivotal role in our continuous growth and success. Furthermore, I commend the dedicated efforts of our staff members who, with determination and commitment, have played an instrumental role in achieving the goals of our faculty throughout the past years.

So, I invite you all to consider joining our vibrant academic community at the Faculty of Education. Together, let us embark on a journey of knowledge, innovation, and excellence in education.
