The OUSL has established a Board of Student Welfare and a Welfare Division in order to expand and accommodate student services in a broader context. The Welfare Division is responsible for coordination and facilitation of activities coming under different units such as, student counseling, career guidance, health care, maintenance division and security etc allowing for better networking and efficiency.
Some of the specific functions coming under the Student Welfare Division are as follows:
- Selection and approval of students for the university, Mahapola and other bursaries
- Review, monitor and evaluate progress of activities carried out by support service units
- Initiate activities to enhance students’ welfare and cultural renaissance
- Initiate activities to enhance students’ social, ethnic cohesion and harmony
- Create awareness about the university student charter and promote students to comply with norms
- Entertain complaints, problems, grievances from students
- Facilitate the management of temporary residential facility
- Coordinate student counselling services
- Facilitate management of common amenities
