Master of Arts in Teaching Literature in a Second Language Context
The PGIE’s MA in TLSC is a unique programme and is currently the only Master of Arts programme dedicated to the Teaching of Literature (in a Second Language Context) (TLSC) available anywhere across the region. Since its inauguration in 2014, the programme has attracted a wide range of students teaching literature at state universities and private higher educational institutes, officials in education administration, and teachers from government, private, and international schools from all parts of Sri Lanka.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSc N) Degree
The Master of Science in Nursing degree programme is offered as a SLQF Level 10 qualification with a minimum of two academic years (60 credits). There will also be an exit point at SLQF Level 9 with Master of Nursing (MN) qualification with a minimum of one academic year (30 credits).

Master of Science in Energy for Circular Economy (Online Masters)
A two-year study Programme leading to the award of Master of Science in Industrial Engineering is to be offered soon after the approval is obtained from the University Grants commission. The aim of the Study Programme is to provide an opportunity, for the graduates who are working in the industry as Industrial Engineers and Managers or the graduates willing to enter into the decision making level, to obtain a higher qualification in the field of Industrial Engineering. This provides an educational opportunity composed with up-to-date academic content delivered within a well-planned curriculum framework and course syllabuses related to Industrial Engineers.
Master of Energy Management
The postgraduate Study Programmes conducted by the department are being revised according to SLQF and to meet the current needs. A one- year study programme leading to the award of Master of Energy Management is to be offered in January 2020. This Programme aims to impart necessary specific theoretical knowledge and skills in the area of energy management to the graduates of engineering who aspire to become qualified energy managers or energy auditors.
Master of Science in Structural Engineering
The Master of Science in Structural Engineering program offers an innovative approach to tackling complex engineering challenges. It trains civil engineers to leverage their technical knowledge in engineering, design, and implementation to create sustainable and economical environments. The curriculum combines established areas like Structural, Soil, and Materials Engineering, and emphasizes industry collaboration to address contemporary needs. It connects traditional structural engineering with modern trends in sustainability and green construction across all engineering disciplines.
Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (PGDELM)
The principle goal of the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management programme is to develop professional competencies and practices in relation to the field of Educational Leadership and Management among graduate teachers, principals and other educational management and administrative officers in the field of Education in Sri Lanka. The PGDELM programme comprises six regular courses and four optional courses. Courses in the PGDELM programme are built around theories, concepts, and modern trends and practices in the field of Educational Leadership and Management. The minimum duration of the programme is one year consisting of two phases, and the programme is offered in Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium. While conducting limited interactive contact sessions and tutorial sessions [Via hybrid mode] for all the courses, a self-regulated learning approach is promoted. There are final written examinations for the nine regular courses, (except one course- ELP8508) and continuous assessments methods are also used to assess the student’s achievement within the programme. Supplementary online courses have been developed and are offered to the students to facilitate their learning journey. Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education
The Department of Special Needs Education offers a 15-month Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education for graduate teachers. Recognized by the Ministry of Education, the program aims to enhance knowledge of Inclusive Education, familiarize participants with relevant theories, and develop positive attitudes and practical skills in special needs education. It addresses current issues faced by individuals in special circumstances and emphasizes effective interaction with parents. The program comprehensively covers all aspects of special needs education, aiming to develop teachers’ professional skills and knowledge.
Master of Education in Special Needs Education Degree Programme
The Master of Education in Special Needs Education is a 66-credit, two-year distance-learning program at OUSL, focusing on self-study without printed texts.
Post Graduate Diploma in Education
The Post Graduate Diploma in Education is a 36-credit program at the Open University of Sri Lanka, aimed at providing professional training for graduate teachers and education professionals. It includes 11 courses: 9 compulsory courses, 2 electives out of 4 options, and practical teaching experience. Suitable for graduates in the education field, it enhances teaching skills and professional development.
