Short Course on School Management (Online)- Sinhala/Tamil/English

The program is designed for officers in the Sri Lanka Principals’ Service (SLPS), Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service (SLEAS), and other interested personnel in similar roles. Its objectives are to enhance knowledge, skills, and attitudes for effective school management, provide hands-on experience in key management areas, and facilitate the application of innovative strategies and trends in school administration.
Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (PGDELM)

The principle goal of the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management programme is to develop professional competencies and practices in relation to the field of Educational Leadership and Management among graduate teachers, principals and other educational management and administrative officers in the field of Education in Sri Lanka. The PGDELM programme comprises six regular courses and four optional courses. Courses in the PGDELM programme are built around theories, concepts, and modern trends and practices in the field of Educational Leadership and Management. The minimum duration of the programme is one year consisting of two phases, and the programme is offered in Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium. While conducting limited interactive contact sessions and tutorial sessions [Via hybrid mode] for all the courses, a self-regulated learning approach is promoted. There are final written examinations for the nine regular courses, (except one course- ELP8508) and continuous assessments methods are also used to assess the student’s achievement within the programme. Supplementary online courses have been developed and are offered to the students to facilitate their learning journey. Short course in Capacity Development for SLEAS Officers (Online)

The program targets officers of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS) and aims to develop essential competencies for effective educational administration. It focuses on implementing quality educational practices to meet National Educational Goals.
Online Short Course on Teaching Children with Learning Disabilities

The course addresses the challenges teachers face in classrooms with students who have Learning Disabilities (LD). Recognizing that these students often struggle with reading, comprehension, writing, and math, the program aims to equip teachers with essential knowledge and skills. Participants will learn to identify students with LD, enhance their professional skills for facilitating successful learning, and apply Action Research to improve the learning abilities of these students in primary and secondary education.
Bachelor of Education Honours in Special Needs Education

The Department of Special Needs Education of the Faculty of Education has developed this programme in collaboration with the respective Faculties/ Departments of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
The principal goal of this programme is to develop professional knowledge, attitudes and skills of the participants. The course would deal comprehensively with all aspects of Special Needs Education.
Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education

The Department of Special Needs Education offers a 15-month Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education for graduate teachers. Recognized by the Ministry of Education, the program aims to enhance knowledge of Inclusive Education, familiarize participants with relevant theories, and develop positive attitudes and practical skills in special needs education. It addresses current issues faced by individuals in special circumstances and emphasizes effective interaction with parents. The program comprehensively covers all aspects of special needs education, aiming to develop teachers’ professional skills and knowledge.
Master of Education in Special Needs Education Degree Programme

The Master of Education in Special Needs Education is a 66-credit, two-year distance-learning program at OUSL, focusing on self-study without printed texts.
Short Course on Research Methodology in Education

This short course aims to enhance participants’ skills in research methodology for educational settings, focusing on research designs, data collection, and analysis techniques. Delivered through 12 weekend workshops in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, the course covers topics like formulating research questions, action research, literature review, proposal writing, data analysis (qualitative and quantitative), and SPSS. Participants will gain practical research skills applicable to daily tasks in educational institutions.
Bachelor of Education Honours in Drama and Theatre

The Department of Secondary and Tertiary Education offers this program for Higher Diploma holders in Drama and Theatre from the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation, providing a pathway into the teaching profession. With minor syllabus modifications, graduates of the Diploma in Teaching (Aesthetic Subjects) from Colleges of Education may also enroll. The program aims to build competencies for effective drama and theatre teaching and includes continuous assessments, teaching practice, a project, and a final examination.
Post Graduate Diploma in Education

The Post Graduate Diploma in Education is a 36-credit program at the Open University of Sri Lanka, aimed at providing professional training for graduate teachers and education professionals. It includes 12 courses: 8 compulsory courses, 2 electives out of 6 options, and practical teaching experience. Suitable for graduates in the education field, it enhances teaching skills and professional development.
