Welcome to the Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Management Studies.

The Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC) of the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) has been established in compliance with the quality assurance system set forth by the Open University of Sri Lanka, aligning with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka.

The FMS comprises four departments: the Department of Organizational Studies, the Department of Accounting and Finance, the Department of Human Resource Management, and the Department of Marketing Management.

The main purpose of the FQAC is to ensure the quality of the academic programs offered by the Faculty to continuously enhance the learners’ experience. The FQAC is composed of a chairperson and four representatives from the four academic departments. The FQAC monitors the progress of the Quality Assurance Cell (QAC) action plan activities conducted by each department. The FQAC plays a vital role in facilitating the four departments in continuously enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

FQAC shall function as the unit responsible for Quality Assurance (QA) within the Faculty of Management Studies that includes four (04) academic departments. Functions and responsibilities of the FQAC shall include amongst others, the following as defined by the Senate Sub Committee on QA of the OUSL established through University By-Law Number 14 of 2015.

Functions and Responsibilities of the Faculty Quality Assurance Cell (FQAC):

  • ▪️Coordinate all Quality Assurance (QA) activities for the Faculty of Management Studies across its four departments.
  • ▪️Monitor and ensure adherence to established QA standards and guidelines.
  • ▪️Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge exchange by sharing best practices among QA cells institution-wide.
  • ▪️Gather stakeholder feedback to enhance services and products. Conduct awareness programs on QA principles and practices for staff.
  • ▪️Cultivate relationships with national and international QA agencies and universities.
  • ▪️Develop and present annual work plans to the Board of Management for approval.
  • ▪️Provide regular transparent reporting on QA activities to respective board and IQAU meetings.
  • ▪️Implement QA reviews and monitor follow-up actions in academic units to ensure compliance and improvement.

The 3rd International Conference on Management and Entrepreneurship (ICOME 2024) hosted an enlightening session on August 22, 2024, featuring Dr. Prabhashini Wijewantha, a Senior Lecturer from the University of Kelaniya. Her session, titled “Navigating the Ph.D. Journey: Strategies for Balancing Study, Work, and Family Life,” provided invaluable strategies for aspiring and current Ph.D. candidates. Dr. Wijewantha shared practical tips on managing the often-overwhelming demands of doctoral studies while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The session was well-received by participants, offering them essential tools to navigate their academic journeys more effectively.

On August 21, 2024, the MBA in HRM program hosted an insightful guest lecture on Research Methodology, led by Mr. Asanka Senevirathne, Senior Lecturer at The Open University of Sri Lanka.
