Post Graduate Diploma in Education

We welcome you to the Post Graduate Diploma in Education Programme. The primary goal of this programme is to provide professional training to graduate teachers and other graduates who are in the field of Education.

This is 36 credit programme offered to graduates of recognized universities who are in the education service or those with equivalent qualifications acceptable to the Senate of the OUSL. The main objective of this programme is to provide professional training to graduate teachers in the school system.

The PGDE programme consists of nine (09) compulsory and two (02) optional courses. The total number of courses you should offer is eleven (11).

The OUSL has decided to enroll applicants in the PGDE 2026/27 programme after a selection test. Only candidates who successfully pass the selection test will be invited for an interview prior to admission to the programme.

Admission

Should hold a Bachelors degree of minimum three (03) years duration, with a minimum of ninety (90) course credits at SLQF Level 5 or above from a recognized University,

An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka

And

Employed as a Teacher or a Principal of a recognized school or an In-service Advisor or a Teacher Educator or an Officer in the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS) or a fulltime member in the academic staff of a University, National College of Education, Technical College and Teacher college or a manager of a Teacher Centre or a Lecturer in the National Institute of Education or any other Professional in the field of Education acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka

Note: All entry criteria should be fulfilled at the time of applying.
