Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Mechanical Engineering

The students opting to follow Mechanical Engineering stream have the option to select courses in automobile engineering, manufacturing engineering and combination of both to meet their specific requirements. Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Textile & Clothing BSc(Eng)

This program is a degree programme to provide in-depth knowledge and skill for the Textile and clothing industry employees at junior manager level and technical grades in the industry within the engineering profession. This will also provide an opportunity to upgrade management skills required to maintain an organization as senior managers.

Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Mechatronics Engineering

Mechatronics Engineering specialisation is offered by the Department with the objective of producing well trained Mechatronics engineers/technical personnel and was introduced for the first time to the engineering curricula in Sri Lanka. It deals with an integrated design approach involving mechanical, electronic, and controls engineering in finding solutions to the modern industry as well as meeting commercial needs.

Master of Science in Energy for Circular Economy (Online Masters)

A two-year study Programme leading to the award of Master of Science in Industrial Engineering is to be offered soon after the approval is obtained from the University Grants commission. The aim of the Study Programme is to provide an opportunity, for the graduates who are working in the industry as Industrial Engineers and Managers or the graduates willing to enter into the decision making level, to obtain a higher qualification in the field of Industrial Engineering. This provides an educational opportunity composed with up-to-date academic content delivered within a well-planned curriculum framework and course syllabuses related to Industrial Engineers.

Master of Energy Management

The postgraduate Study Programmes conducted by the department are being revised according to SLQF and to meet the current needs. A one- year study programme leading to the award of Master of Energy Management is to be offered in January 2020. This Programme aims to impart necessary specific theoretical knowledge and skills in the area of energy management to the graduates of engineering who aspire to become qualified energy managers or energy auditors.

Research Degrees (MPhil & PhD)

In addition to the taught masters’programme, the department accepts research students in the areas related to mechanical and mechatronics engineering to read for higher degrees by research leading to the awards of MPhil and PhD

Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Electrical Engineering

The B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering program at OUSL aims to produce skilled graduates in the electrical engineering field, specializing in planning, design, operation, and control. This program includes industrial training and a project component, focusing on electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. Students gain practical experience through established software tools in the power system laboratory, preparing them for future challenges. Core courses cover topics such as electro-mechanical energy conversion, power system planning, high voltage engineering, and essential electronics and management skills. Students can also choose optional courses to broaden their knowledge in related engineering disciplines.

Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Electronics & Communication Engineering

The B.Sc. (Hons) in Electronics and Communication Engineering program prepares engineers for careers in electronic and telecommunication systems. It focuses on the design, development, installation, testing, and maintenance of these systems. The curriculum covers core subjects such as electronics principles, microprocessors, communication engineering, microwave systems, and control systems, along with engineering mathematics and management. The final year project allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice, enhancing their technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering – Computer Engineering

The Bachelor of Computer Engineering program integrates software and hardware, preparing graduates for careers in embedded systems, hardware design, networking, and software development. It emphasizes designing, developing, and maintaining systems through a curriculum that includes software and hardware courses, mathematics, management, and an undergraduate project. Key courses cover Data Structures, Microprocessors, and Computer Architecture, with the final project offering practical experience and industry collaboration.

Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours

The Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours (BSEHons) program prepares graduates for careers as software architects, engineers, system analysts, and QA engineers. Spanning four years, it follows ACM/IEEE curriculum guidelines and focuses on designing and implementing complex software systems while addressing constraints like cost and time. Core units include computer science, programming, software engineering, and Quality Assurance, with an emphasis on communication skills. The program is delivered in English and coordinated by the Center for IT Educational Services (CITES).
