The Advanced Automotive and Electric Vehicle Systems Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Open University of Sri Lanka is established to provide hands-on training, research opportunities, and practical exposure in modern automotive technologies. The laboratory is equipped with advanced training platforms related to electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid vehicle systems, motor control units, battery management systems (BMS), electronic control units (ECUs), and diesel common rail engine electronic control systems.

The laboratory enables students to study the operation, control, diagnostics, and integration of automotive electronic systems through real industrial training modules and simulation platforms. It supports learning in areas such as electric propulsion systems, hybrid vehicle technology, embedded automotive electronics, sensor systems, vehicle communication networks, and intelligent control systems.
The facility is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial practice by allowing students to perform experiments, fault diagnosis, system analysis, and performance evaluation on modern automotive platforms. In addition to undergraduate teaching activities, the laboratory also supports research and development in sustainable transportation, smart mobility, energy-efficient vehicle systems, and automotive automation technologies.

This laboratory plays a significant role in preparing engineering students and researchers for emerging trends in the automotive industry, particularly in electric mobility, intelligent transportation systems, and advanced vehicle diagnostics.
