Master of Arts in Development Studies and Public Policy

The MA in Development and Policy Studies, offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Marga Institute, aims to enhance education and research in the field through an integrative social sciences approach. The two-year program, conducted in English, equips graduates from various disciplines to work in the development sector both nationally and internationally. It includes 13 regular courses, one Continuing Education course, and a research component, spread over 4 semesters. The program totals 63 credits: 45 credits for regular courses, 3 for Continuing Education, and 15 for research work.
Short Course in Korean Language

The Korean language short courses offer two levels: Basic and Intermediate. The Basic course introduces Hangeul and practical vocabulary, while the Intermediate course builds on existing language skills. Classes are available online or onsite, with tests conducted at the Colombo Regional Centre.
Diploma in Tourism Operations

The one-year Diploma in Tourism Operations at the Open University of Sri Lanka provides an introduction to the multidisciplinary nature of the tourism industry. In the first semester, students take 4 core compulsory courses, while in the second semester, they choose between two specializations: Hotel Operations or Travel Operations, covering 4 courses. The program includes a practical component and is worth 30 credits. It is designed for school leavers, job seekers, and those already working in the tourism, travel, and hotel industries.
Programme in Tamil Programme in Sinhala

This program aims to develop the four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, along with proper grammar use. It targets government and private sector employees who want to improve their Tamil communication skills for better workplace efficiency. The course uses a communicative language teaching method, with exercises and tasks tailored for Sinhala or Tamil native speakers.
Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences

The BA in Social Sciences at the Open University of Sri Lanka is a multi-disciplinary degree program starting at Level 3, offered in English. The program spans several years, with each year divided into two semesters, allowing students to complete up to 15 credits per semester. To graduate, a total of 90 credits is required, including compulsory, elective, and Continuing Education (CE) courses. Students must take up to 8 credits of CE courses each year, including compulsory courses like English. The program offers specialization in four streams: Economics and Development Studies, Communication Studies, Politics and International Relations, and Society and Culture Studies.

This programme will train students at basic levels in the fast-developing tourism and hotel industry. It is suitable for schools leavers who are interested in a career in tourism and hotel industry, and others who are already employed in the industry.

This course is offered by the Social Studies Department and has a duration of 30 hours of lectures and discussion sessions (10 Weekends). During the 30-hour course, participants will be introduced to various topics related to event management. The course will be conducted in English language.
