The Department of Legal Studies, in collaboration with the Research Unit of the Open University of Sri Lanka, hosted an important discussion on “Scope and Implementation of Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act: Implications for State Universities and Public Sector Compliance” on 4th August 2025 at the Faculty of Health Sciences Auditorium.
The session was conducted by Mr. Jayantha Fernando, LLM (University of London), Attorney-at-Law, and Chair of the PDPA Drafting Committee, who provided valuable insights into the legislative framework, compliance obligations, and practical challenges faced by state institutions under the PDPA. The discussion shed light on the critical requirement for state universities and public sector entities to align their operations with the provisions of the Act, ensuring the protection of personal data in line with both national and international standards.
The event was moderated by Professor Sanath Wijesinghe, Head of the Department of Legal Studies, OUSL.
