The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) and the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) have officially established a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 5th May 2025. This collaboration aims to enhance the entrepreneurial landscape in Sri Lanka, with a particular focus on strengthening the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, which plays a critical role in economic development and job creation.
Through this initiative, OUSL and NEDA seek to address the challenges faced by MSMEs, including limited access to resources and training opportunities. A key focus of this partnership is OUSL’s participation in NEDA’s SMEConnect.lk platform, a digital resource that connects entrepreneurs with market opportunities, networks and mentorship. This platform will facilitate small businesses in accessing essential resources and expanding their operations within a digital economy. By integrating academic expertise with industry insights, this collaboration promotes innovation and sustainable business practices.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of representatives from both institutions, including Senior Professor P.M.C. Thilakerathne, Vice-Chancellor of the Open University of Sri Lanka; Professor Nalin Abeysekera, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies; and Dr. Janaka Heenkenda, Coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Development and Consultancy Unit (EDCU). Additional attendees included the University Registrar, Bursar, and other academic personnel. The National Enterprise Development Authority was represented by its Chairman and Director-General, Lakshman Abeysekara, as well as Director Dhanuka Liyanagamage and other senior officials. This event signifies their collective commitment to the empowerment of Sri Lankan entrepreneurs.
