The Entrepreneurship Development and Consultancy Unit (EDCU) of the Open University of Sri Lanka successfully organized Entrepreneurship Day 2025 on the 3rd of April 2025, at the Nawala premises, in alignment with the University’s Open Day function.
The event featured a range of interactive activities, including workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions, which were designed to foster entrepreneurial thinking and engagement. Industry experts and successful entrepreneurs shared their insights, contributing to a dynamic and enriching experience for all participants.
Also, the Open Startup online magazine featuring insightful interviews and success stories has been published at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Entrepreneurship Day. This publication offers a fresh perspective on startups, innovation, and technology.
A key highlight of the day was the inter-school debate competition, which brought together students from ten schools within the Colombo zone. The event successfully fostered critical thinking and communication skills among young participants, emphasizing the themes of entrepreneurship, innovation, and the future of Sri Lanka. It concluded with a commendable victory for Nalanda Boys’ College debate team, who won the championship title in the competition.
In addition, a business clinic and product showcase were conducted with the support of partner organizations such as the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA), Industrial Development Board (IDB), and Industrial Technology Institute (ITI), along with several banks known for supporting SME financing. This initiative enabled nearly 20 small-scale entrepreneurs, including our student entrepreneurs, to present their products to a broader audience. The day also included valuable knowledge-sharing sessions led by industry professionals, academics, and business leaders, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and practical learning.
