Facilities
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering possesses many laboratories established in the Colombo Regional Centre located in the Central Campus. Moreover, the Department also has laboratory facilities in all the Regional Centres to conduct some of the laboratory classes for its undergraduates. The Department also has a Seminar Room, Research Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory and a Student Corner to serve its undergraduate students.
Apart from all these the Department owns an Electronics Workshop which provides electronic equipment repair services to the whole University. Together with its services to the University, the Electronic Workshop provides training opportunities to the undergraduates in Computer Engineering discipline.

 

Physical Resources for Computer Engineering Degree Programme at Colombo Regional Centre

Electronics Laboratory:

Has the capacity to accommodate 20 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Electronics I and Electronics II courses.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 5 parallel groups:

Oscilloscopes, dual power supplies, signal generators and also the discrete level electronic components.

Analog Electronics Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 12 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Analog Electronic Systems course.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 3 parallel groups:

Oscilloscopes, dual power supplies, signal generators, spectrum analyzer and also the discrete level electronic components.

Digital Electronic Systems Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 10 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Digital Electronic Systems course.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment and software sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 5 parallel groups:

FPGA boards, logic analyzer, signal generators and Xilinx Vivado design suite software, PCs

Microprocessors Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 25 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Microprocessors and Interfacing course.

Microwave Engineering Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 8 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Microwave Engineering & Applications course.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 2 parallel groups:
Microwave trainer kit, oscilloscope, Gunn power supply, SWR meter

Communication Systems Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 8 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Communication Theory & Systems course.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 2 parallel groups:
Antenna trainer kit, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, signal generators, function generators, filter trainers

Communications Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 16 students at a time. This laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Communication and Communication & IT courses.
The Laboratory consists of the following main equipment sufficient to conduct laboratory classes for 4 parallel student groups:
Power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, FM trainer kit, optical trainer kit

Software Laboratory:
Has the capacity to accommodate 45 students at a time. This computer laboratory is used to conduct the laboratory classes for Software Engineering and BTech course.
The Laboratory consists of the 45 computers with the necessary software packages.

Electronic Workshop:
Electronic Workshop has a permanent staff consisting of two electronic engineers and 3 technical officers. Though the Electronic Workshop does not directly involve the teaching/learning activities, this facility can be used by the students for their project work.
