BMS (Hons.) degrees of the OUSL are linked with the University of Essex, UK
The Open University of Sri Lanka, being a leader in Sri Lankan higher educational sphere, announced proudly of its achievement of linking the BMS (Hons.) degree Programme with the University of Essex in UK. This transnational educational relationship opens new avenues of learning which are not available for local undergraduates at present and reinforces the OUSL mission of life-changing education with a global touch!
Enrolling to the BMS (Hons.) degree Programme in the Faculty of Management Studies enables students to make a choice at the end of level 4 (second year) to continue in the OUSL or join up with the BSc Degree in the Essex Business School of the University of Essex, UK through the progression link established. At the completion of level 5 (third year), students will be able to gain direct entry to the about 15 MSc Degree Programmes in the field of Management Studies at the University of Essex, UK. These progression pathways lead to obtaining both local and foreign qualifications in Management Studies from well-recognized universities at an affordable cost. Besides, it enables undergraduates to choose the most appropriate institute for a relevant field of study and make an informed decision about their career pathway with minimum risk in the future.

Progression pathways
There are two pathways of progression open through this collaboration.
2D+2: Successful completion of level 4 of the Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons.) degree programme with minimum overall GPA of 2.7 (qualified for a higher diploma) AND standard University of Essex English Language Entry Requirements (IELTS) are considered for entry to Year 2 of a bachelor’s Programme at Essex.
3+1: Successful completion of level 5 of a 4-year Bachelor’s degree (Hons.) programme with a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 AND standard University of Essex English Language Entry Requirements (IELTS)* are considered for entry to 1-year master’s Programme at Essex.
* IELTS is not required for the OUSL students
Finances
Students who enroll in this program need to pay nominal rates of the tuition fees of OUSL and the international course fee of Essex University for the relevant academic durations.
- – A 20% tuition fee discount for the first year of study only is offered by Essex for OUSL students applying through this link agreement.
- – Master’s candidates from Sri Lanka qualify for the Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship based on their GPA.
- – A special education loan package from COMMERCIAL BANK with a grace period at a reduced interest rate.
