Mr. Asanka Senevirathne, Senior Lecturer in Accountancy & Business Finance 

I am Asanka Senevirathne, is committed to continuous professional development. It is my way of dealing with who ever I met with friendly spirit. I respect to my parents, family, nation and predecessors who have contributed to my nation and organization where I live and serve at present.   My carrier is blessed with successful academic and professional records which I have reached by right now in the field of Accountancy and Business finance. I am so grateful to my parent, brothers and sister, wife, kids, family, relations, peers, nature, universe and almighty God for creating and nurturing  me.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Accountancy and Business Finance attached to the Department of Accounting & Finance , Faculty of Management Studies, of the Open University of Sri Lanka. The journey at OUSL commenced 03.12.2012. I  hold a Masters of Business Administration Degree (MBA) (Merit) from University of Wayamba and B.Sc. Accountancy and Business Finance (Sp) (1st Class Honours) Degree from the same University. I am a member of Association of Accounting Technicians in Sri Lanka (MAAT- 4994) and Student at Corporate Level of Institute of Chartered Accountants in Sri Lanka. At present I am reading for  PhD at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo Sri Lanka.

Prior to joining the Open University of Sri Lanka in 2012, I got a chance to  served as an Assistant Lecturer attached to the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Business Studies and Finance, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka from 01.09.2009 to 02.12.2012. I got better foundation to my academic carrier from the Wayamba University. In addition to the lecturing I coordinated the internship programme of the Department of Accountancy and contributed to the development of Journal of Accounting and Finance issued by the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Business Studies in Wayamba University. At present I am, the department level coordinator to BMS programme offered by the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS). Previously I coordinated the MBA in HRM Programme offered by the Department of Human Resource Management and Common Wealth Executive Master of Business Administration/ Public Administration, [CEMBA/CEMPA] which is currently coordinated by department of Accounting and Finance.

I am specialized in the field of Accounting & Finance and currently conduct research in the field of “Personal Financial Management”, specially area of “Personal Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion”, My PhD thesis is ” Impact of Financial Literacy on Firm Performance through Risk Propensity and role of Business Experience and Resource Diversity of SMEs in Sri Lanka”. In addition to that, I conduct research in the area of Open Distance Learning (ODL) as a core area of academic role at the Open University of Sri Lanka. I can recalled happily of the miles stone achievement on the November 27 2018 by achieving a Gold Medal for the Best Paper Award for the Co-Author research with Ms. H.C.Dassanayeke at the Asian Association of Open University Annual Conference in Hanoi Vietnam. I am happy to announce that I initiated two short courses with Mr. C.P.Weerasekara in November 2018. [01] Short courses in Computerize Accounting and [02] Short courses in Financial Accounting.  This is the 1st time of the Open University history offered two Short Courses in Financial Accounting and Computerize Accounting.

I like to serve to underprivileged and marginalized segment in my country who is thirst of education and unable to access to the high standard level of life style.  So, I am continuously committed my self to academic teaching, course material development, research and publication specially on personal financial management and wealth accumulation.

I believe, with all collective effort we can re-build our mother Land ” Sri Lanka” as rich nation  in terms of high living standards and annual per capita income over 25,000 US$. So, I will commit to play my role as Senior Academic in a National University for the betterment of those who need my support.
