Human Rights Day 2023 – Essay Competition

Calling for Submissions

The Department of Legal Studies will be organizing a Human Rights Day Celebration on 08th December, 2023 to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Parallel to the Human Rights Day celebrations, the Department will be conducting an essay competition for LL.B students. Essays under any of the following themes can be submitted in either English, Sinhala, or Tamil mediums:

(1)   Israel-Palestine conflict and world peace

(2)   Human rights in the times of economic crisis

(3)   Protection of migrants and migrant workers

(4)   Defining hate speech

Guidelines for submissions:

  • All the participants should be registered LL.B students of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
  • Length of the essay should be less than 2500 words. The essay should be submitted in the PDF format.
  • All the essays should be submitted on or before 20th They should be sent to humanrightsday2023@gmail.com
  • The register number should be mentioned in the submission. Other than the register number, no other sign indicating the identity of the student should be indicated in the submission.
  • No student is allowed to submit more than one submission. If more than one essay is submitted, the student will be considered as disqualified.
