First Sports Colors Night of The Open University History

The Physical Education Unit and the Student Sports Council at the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) joined hands to organize a historic event – the first-ever Sports Colors Night in the university’s annals.

The event, held on March 7th, 2024, at the New Auditorium, garnered much attention as it marked a significant milestone in the university’s sporting history. Senior Professor P.M.C. Thilakarathne, the esteemed Vice Chancellor of OUSL, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, lending further prestige to the event.

The gathering saw the esteemed presence of Deans from various Faculties, the Registrar, the Bursar, and a multitude of academic and non-academic staff members, all coming together to celebrate the remarkable achievements of OUSL’s sporting talents.

A highlight of the evening was the conferral of university colors upon 79 outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen. These colors were awarded in recognition of their exceptional performances at both national and international levels, underscoring the university’s commitment to nurturing and honoring athletic excellence.

Additionally, the event served as a platform to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of over 400 students who participated in inter-faculty sports. Each participant received certificates commemorating their dedication and achievements in various sporting endeavors.

Among the accolades bestowed, the Faculty of Natural Sciences emerged triumphant, clinching the title of “Best Faculty” based on their exemplary performance at the 2023 Inter-faculty sports event.

The inaugural Sports Colors Night at OUSL not only celebrated athletic prowess but also served as a testament to the university’s commitment to holistic development and the promotion of a vibrant sporting culture among its student body.
