Dr. G.T.Madhubhashini Galagedarage is a Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies in the Department of Social Studies in the Open University of Sri Lanka. She is also a visiting lecturer in some other national universities . She has obtained a first class in the BA Degree for the first time in the history of the Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo in 2007 as well as she has completed the M.Phil (2010) and PhD (2014) studies.She has obtained a scholarship form the HETC project, World Bank to do the PhD studies. She is  the youngest academic to obtain a PhD in Media and Communication studies in Sri Lanka.  Dr.Galagedarge is a member of the academic panels and committees at the university, national and international level. she is the QIG course team manager for the  stream of Mass communication, the faculty representative for the  Industry Liaison Center,  the department representative for the Mahapola and Bursary committee and the faculty research committee. She is also the academic coordinator for the Master of Arts in Development Studies and public policy. Dr. Galagedarage is a  member of the board of directors in National Secretariat for Media Reforms in Sri Lanka. she is the President of Young Social Scientist Association, National Science Foundationin Sri Lanka. At present she provides her academic expertise to the Department of Government Information in Sri Lanka.

  • Member of the committee of the lesson writing for the Advanced Level Syllabus in Media Studies at the National Institute of Education.
  • Member of the independent panel of experts who worked on the report of the assessment of the broadcast ratings system in Sri Lanka in 2017 commissioned by the Department of Government Information, Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.
  • Chair of the session on  ‘Social Media, Feminisms and
    Entertainment’ at the 3rd World Conference on Women’s Studies 2017 in Colombo
  • Panel chair, the International Conference on RTI Sri Lanka and Media Reforms, 2016 conducted by the Department of Government Information, Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.
  • Resource person for ‘Doramadalawa’, ‘Malpara’, ‘Salmal Yaya’, and ITN 38th Anniversary programme on ITN TV channel
  • Took responsibility for evaluation of answer scripts of the University Grants Commission Examination for the recruitment of Assistant Secretaries and Assistant Registrars held on 4th and 5th April 2009.
  • Conducted a guest lecture at Colombo University titled “ICT and development” on 25th October 2015.
  • Reviewer for Rebuilding Public Trust: An assessment of the Media Industry and Profession in Sri Lanka published by Secretariat for Media Reforms in May 2016.
  • Member of the academic panel to look into the broadcasting rating system in Sri Lanka conducted by the Department of Government Information in 2016

  • Participated in the workshop on ‘3 Minute Thesis’ held on 8-9 May 2014 and obtained third prize in the ‘3 Minute Thesis’ competition on the 21st May 2014.
  • Conducted a guest lecture titled ‘The Internet usage among Sri Lankan women’ at the Tun Fatimah Hashim Women’s Leadership Center, the National University of Malaysia on 08th January 2014.
