Matara Regional Centre

Introduction

The Matara Regional Centre (MRC) of the Open University of Sri Lanka is located in Nupe area, which is considered to be the ‘Educational centre’ of the present-day environment in the city of Matara. The Matara Regional Centre began a long successful journey around the year 1985 at a place which was belonged to the Matara Technical College, and the MRC was also a victim of the 1988/89 riots but has been providing continuous educational facilities for several decades under the improved and modern building facilities, under the OUSL owned premises since 1987. Being the ‘Southern Campus’ of the Open University of Sri Lanka, which provides formal higher education through the concept of distance education to thousands of adult people in all age groups in the region who have a genuine need of higher education qualifications.

We possess an auditorium which can be accommodated more than 100 students, library with more than 10,000 books, discussing room “Kuppi Room”, separate studying room with 30 seating capacity, multimedia library information section, two examination halls with more than 150 students seating capacities, two air conditioned computer laboratories, Five lecture rooms with multimedia and internet facilities and canteen area with all essential facilities for dining purposes consists in the center premises.
