Entry requirements
(a) At least six (06) passes at the G.C.E (O/L) examination including Mathematics and Science, or equivalent local /foreign qualification from a recognized University/ institute, or
(b) Any equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.
(c) Exemptions shall be granted for Part 1 courses (Level 2 -part 1), if students have followed the relevant subject in the GCE (A/L) and obtain at least of 40% overall marks at the Exemption Tests conducted by the OUSL.

Eligibility for Admission to the Programme of Study of Bachelor of Science
A person seeking admission to the Programme of Study leading to the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Science shall be required to have;
1. a minimum of three (03) Pass grades at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka, in three (03) science subjects, from among Biology, Chemistry, Combined Mathematics, Physics, Agricultural Science and Information and Communication Technology OR,
2. PASS grades in all the courses offered in three (03) science subjects, from among Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Combined Mathematics, in Advanced Certificate in Science offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka OR,
3. A combination of GCE (A/L) results in any sittings + courses passed from Advanced Certificate in Science can be used as admission requirements for BSc degree programme
E.g. 1 If a student passes Biology in GCE (A/L) and passes chemistry and physics in the ACS programme, the student can combine these results to be admitted to the BSc degree programme
E.g.2 If a student passes Agricultural Science in GCE (A/L) and passes Chemistry and Biology in the ACS programme, the student can combine these results to be admitted to the BSc degree programme
Eligibility requirements for degree programmes offered by Faculty of Engineering Technology
For the Programme of Study of Bachelor of Engineering Technology
You need to obtain the Advanced Certificate of Science Certificate or three passes in GCE (A/L) in one sitting (chemistry, physics, Combined mathematics)
- If you have done your GCE A/L’s in the Physical Sciences Stream If you have one pass in GCE (A/L)/two passes in GCE (A/L), we recommend that you sit the you need to sit for exemption test for all three subjects (chemistry, physics, Combined mathematics) and PASS the exemption test for all three subjects.
- Passing the exemption tests may give you the opportunity to claim up to 50% of course credits as exemptions (Level 2 – part 1 will be exempted), which may enable you to complete the ACS programme within a minimum one year period.
- All other students who do not fall into both above categories, will have to register for Level 2 part 1 (first year) and pass it and could sit for Level 2 part 2 (second year) (can complete the ACS in two years)
For Programme of Study of Bachelor of Software Engineering
- Obtained passes for any three subjects at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka, excluding General English and General Information Technology subjects, or,
- Completed any Advanced Certificate programme offered by the Open University
of Sri Lanka,
For Programme of Study of Bachelor of Industrial Studies (Textile)
- obtained three passes in any stream, at the General Certificate of Education(Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one sitting, or,
- Completed any Advanced Certificate programme offered by the Open University
of Sri Lanka
For Programme of Study of Bachelor of Industrial Studies (Agriculture)
- obtained a pass in Biology at the General Certificate in Education (Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka and any other two subjects from among the subjects Chemistry, Physics, Combined mathematics and Agriculture in one sitting, or
- Obtained, a pass in Biology and any other two subjects of all the courses of chemistry, physics or Combined mathematics from the Advanced Certificate in Science Programme offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka
