I currently working as a Senior Professor in geology at The Open University of Sri Lanka. I received my B.Sc. special degree in geology (1991) and MPhil (1995) from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I obtained my PhD from Johannes Gutenberg – Univerity of Mainz, Germany (2001) under the supervision of world-renewed scientist, Professor Lukas P. Baumgartner.

I have 21 years of undergraduate and graduate teaching experience including gemmology, applied geophysics, geochemistry, mineralogy, petrology, introductory geology, planetary geology, igneous and metamorphic geology, water chemistry, advanced geochemistry, phase petrology, Precambrian geology, geological mapping in Precambrian terrains, environmental geology, introduction to geological research and instrumental analysis in most of the state universities in Sri Lanka.

I have more than fifteen (15) years of experience in academic administration in various educational institutes including the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) where I served as the Head of the Department of Physics and Basic Sciences and now serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences. At the OUSL, I served as the Director/Research as well. I have served as the programme Coordinator of MSc in Environmental Science since 2001 at the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya. Currently, I act as the Chairman of the BOS in Environmental Science of PGIS. Other than that I held several managerial positions as Director General of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), and a member of Board of Management of Road Development Authority (RDA), GSMB and PGIS.
