I am interested and actively involved in exploring novel metal complexes and their useful properties in solving health and environmental problems. I first realized my enthusiasm in this area as an undergraduate at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura while analyzing some Re(I) complexes for their potential applications in diagnostic imaging under the supervision of Prof. Theshini Perera. In the spring of 2014 I joined the department of chemistry, Louisiana State University of USA as a Ph.D candidate. Under the supervision of Prof. Luigi Marzilli, I received the opportunity to work on Pt(II) based anticancer agents and non-radioactive Re(I) complexes (185-Re) as models in developing radiopharmaceuticals of 99m-Tc and 187-Re. I was the 2018 awardee of the Mary Jo Pribble Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Inorganic Chemistry offered by Louisiana State University. I have authored several peer-reviewed research articles published internationally (Inorg. Chem.) and in locally recognized journals and won an NRC (Sri Lanka) merit award for scientific publications in 2016.
After graduating from LSU, I joined the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) as a lecturer in Chemistry in 2019 and then joined the Open University of Sri Lanka as a senior lecturer in Chemistry in 2022. As a teacher, my goal is to motivate young generations to pursue and excel in science.
