Most stationary items are non-biodegradable plastics, which take hundreds of years to degrade in the environment. These plastics will end up in landfills, oceans, or incinerators causing both ecological and health concerns. In the incineration process, many toxic gases like dioxins are released into the atmosphere.
To reduce this global plastic pollution crisis, recycling stationary plastic is a major requirement in the modern world. By recycling stationaries, we can reduce the demand for new raw materials, conserve these precious resources for future generations, reduce cost and energy usage, mitigate the environmental impact, and reduce carbon emissions contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSD) has launched a project for collecting stationery items. As the first stage of the programme, an awareness campaign has been completed successfully to raise awareness about the importance of stationary recycling.  Alongside this educational endeavor, stationery collecting places have been established throughout the campus. These collected stationery items will be handed over to stationary collecting companies that are registered with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA). This sustainable approach will make society aware of the importance of plastic reuse and recycling and make a significant impact on the well-being of our planet.
