The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) was established in 1980, offering the same legal and academic status as all other national universities in Sri Lanka. As the only recognized university in Sri Lanka where one can pursue further education solely by distance education methods, OUSL embraces the philosophy of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
With over 45,000 students spread throughout the island, and many of our students are employed, showcasing our flexibility and accessibility.

For a typical 38-credit course load, students should be prepared to devote about 1900 hours of free time for self-study during the academic year - approximately 58 hours per week for 33 weeks.
