The 3rd International Conference on Mangroves for Sustainability (ICMS 2025), organized by Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSD) of the Open University of Sri Lanka in collaboration with M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), India and National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) was held on July 22–23 at the Waters’ Edge, Colombo and the Open University of Sri Lanka. This hybrid event united global experts to explore “Mangroves for a Sustainable Future: Biodiversity, Climate Resilience, and Blue Economy,” advancing innovation, strengthening policy-science-community partnerships, and promoting strategies for the conservation and sustainable management of mangroves worldwide.
As part of ICMS 2025, a field visit to the Lanka Mangrove Museum in Pambala was held on July 24, 2025, providing participants with firsthand insight into the ecological and social significance of mangroves.
On July 26, 2025, a post-conference workshop in Pambala commemorated World Mangrove Day with expert presentations and active student participation, featuring sessions on conservation, law, and community action.
