a story of hard work, perseverance and positivity…. https://ou.ac.lk/a-story-of-hard-work-perseverance-and-positivity/ Thu, 29 Dec 2022 04:42:56 +0000 https://ou.ac.lk/?p=1788 Hi! I am Randika Wickramarathna.

I completed my A/Ls in Science stream from St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy. But, I could not obtain an opportunity to enter into a conventional university. However, I was determined to obtain a well-recognized internal degree and that was one of the main dreams I had in my life.

So, in order to achieve my dream, I searched information related to external degrees, internal degrees offered by private universities etc.

While I was searching information like that, one of my schoolmates; Madushnka told me about the Open University of Sri Lanka.

So, I visited the Open University of Sri Lanka, Kandy Regional Centre which is the closest OUSL Regional Centre to my house.

To be honest, when I first came to the Kandy Regional Centre, I had a lot of doubts about the BSc degree programme, what is meant by a credit, how to pay the course fees etc.  But, when I came to the university, the KRC staff members gave me all the details related to the programme which solved almost all of my doubts. They explained me about the process of paying the course fees and the loan facilities available to the students at OUSL.

So, finally in 2018, I registered to the Bachelor of Science Degree programme at Kandy Regional Centre. I must say that during our registrations, the academic staff of the Faculty of Natural Sciences were also present and they clearly explained us how to select credits and other necessary details related to the programme in the counselling sessions. This helped me a lot to obtain a clear understanding of my study path.

At Kandy Regional Centre, all the lab facilities necessary for the students to follow their practical sessions are provided. They offer lab facilities for the practical sessions related to Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, and Computer Science. Apart from that, in order to face our practical tests or to carry out our projects, there are many facilities provided by the university such as the internet facilities and library facilities.

So, I was finally able to complete a three years Bachelor of Science degree with a “Second Class” and I am happy to say that I will be graduating in the upcoming 35th Convocation of OUSL which will be held on the 5th of January 2023 at BMICH.

I believe that Kandy Regional Centre is a turning point in my life because I was able to give wings to my dream by joining the Open University of Sri Lanka, Kandy Regional Centre and also currently I am working as a Project Assistant at the Kandy Regional Centre. To continue my education further, I have already started my postgraduate studies as well.

So, I would like to take this as an opportunity to invite anyone who is aspiring to obtain a well-recognized internal degree in Science stream to come and join the Open University of Sri Lanka.

An inspiring story of academic excellence and dedication… https://ou.ac.lk/success-story-of-ms-malsha-amarasiri-an-inspiring-story-of-academic-excellence-and-dedication/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 06:15:40 +0000 https://ou.ac.lk/?p=1731

Hi! I am Malsha Amarasiri. I followed the BSc. Programme offered by The Open University of Sri Lanka at the Kandy Regional Centre.

After the A/L results were out, I was wondering what should I do, how should I continue my higher studies and which University should I join?

It was my father who told me about The Open University of Sri Lanka. He has searched a lot about the university and its academic programmes and he suggested me that The Open University of Sri Lanka is the best university that suits me the most for my higher educational journey.

So, with my father, I came to the Open University and registered for the Bachelor of Science degree programme. Before I joined the university, I searched a little bit about what is the Open University, its academic programmes.

I got to know that the OUSL uses a system called “Open and Distance Learning”. To be honest, at first, I was afraid whether I will be able to handle it since I was new to the system. But once I joined the university, I understood what the “Open and Distance Learning” system is. I must say that the Open University environment is arranged in such a way that it systematically makes us get used to the ODL system without any inconvenience. There are many Days Schools that are conducted to teach us the course materials and we also get a chance to meet our lecturers. Also, the course materials related to the program are given to us so that we can start our studies easily.

Also, I must say that there is a good panel of lecturers who are very humble and helpful. They always support us if there is any problem that we encounter while studying the materials and we can easily discuss those with them and clear our doubts. Most importantly, during the Day Schools they teach us the relevant course materials and also provide us with an opportunity to clarify any doubts that we have related to them.
