The reading component is designed to enable the students to identify and understand the main ideas in a short, simple academic text. They will also learn to use contextual, structural and morphological clues to deduce meaning of unfamiliar words and phrases within a text.

The focus of the writing component is to assist the students to gain mastery in writing short compositions on a variety of topics using different patterns of organizing an essay and develop the skills of note taking.

The listening component attempts to develop skills required to identify and understand the key ideas in a longer text (e.g. lecture), understand simple explanations and descriptions in short academic texts and understand internal cohesion (e.g. Within a paragraph).

The speech component requires the students to use simple question forms to ask for information, respond to complex questions with a reasonable degree of accuracy, and make a short speech using a limited range of cohesive devices to on a general topic.
