Dr Sanath Sameera Wijesinghe is a Senior Lecturer and the current Head of the Department
of Legal Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Honours
(LLB) (Hons) in 2012 and a Master of Law (Merit) in 2017 from the Faculty of Law,
University of Colombo. Further, he obtained a First Class (Honours) pass in the Attorneys-
at-Law Final Examination conducted by the Sri Lanka Law College in 2013. He completed
his PhD in 2021 in the School of Law, Faculty of Business and Law, Queensland University
of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Dr Wijesinghe is also an Associate Fellow of the UK
Higher Education Academy and is an Attorney-at-Law in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Dr Wijesinghe has been awarded the Dean of the Faculty of Law Award for Jurisprudence,
Gold Medal for the best performance in “Jurisprudence” at the Bachelor of Laws, Year IV
Examination, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, held in 2012. He has been awarded the
QUT Faculty of Business and Law Scholarship in 2020 and the QUT Write-Up Scholarship in
2021 during his PhD studies at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane,
Australia. Dr Wijesinghe has also been received the Senate Award for Research Excellence
in 2022 awarded by the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Dr Wijesinghe has also published peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers on
health justice and intellectual property rights, tobacco plain packaging and global health law,
graphic health warning regulations in Sri Lanka, intellectual property rights, including
copyrights, patent and geographical indications, constitutional law, and some aspects of
international humanitarian law.

He is a sessional academic and research assistant at the Australian Centre for Health Law
Research at the Queensland University of Technology, School of Law. He also serves as a
visiting lecturer for intellectual property law, information technology law, commercial law,
research methodology, constitutional law and international law and an examiner and post-
graduate research supervisor in several state universities and institutions in Sri Lanka.
