I received my Ph.D  (Molecular Biology) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. I was awarded a Pre-doctoral Fellowship in 2004 by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Italy to do the Ph.D Programme in the area of CD80 Gene Expression at the Immunology Laboratory, ICGEB, New Delhi, India.   Also I received my M.Sc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Gene Technology from University of Colombo in 1998.  I am currently attached to the Open University of Sri Lanka as a Senior Lecturer Gr.I.  I worked in Wayamba University of Sri Lanka nearly for 18 years (Jan 2001 – May 2018) where I served as the Head of the Department of Biotechnology for 6 years (Sep 2011- Sep 2017).   I started my academic career in the University of Jaffna in 1990 after my graduation and later in the Eastern University of Sri Lanka. I am interested in multidisciplinary research covering different fields Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Nanotechnology, Wastewater Treatment and Drug Development for Cancer Treatment.  I received couple of awards including Presidential Award in 2002 and Government of India Scholarship Award in 2009.  I delivered few Keynote addresses both in National and International Forums and served in the panel of examiners for Ph.D thesis evaluation for the countries India and Australia.
