Welcome to the PGDELM Programme.

The principle goal of the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management programme is to develop professional competencies and practices in relation to the field of Educational Leadership and Management among graduate teachers, principals and other educational management and administrative officers in the field of Education in Sri Lanka. The PGDELM programme comprises six regular courses and four optional courses.Courses in the PGDELM programme are built around theories, concepts, and modern trends and practices in the field of Educational Leadership and Management. The minimum duration of the programme is one year consisting of two phases, and the programme is offered in Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium. While conducting limited interactive contact sessions and tutorial sessions [Via hybrid mode] for all the courses, a self-regulated learning approach is promoted. There are final written examinations for the nine regular courses, (except one course- ELP8508) and continuous assessments methods are also used to assess the student’s achievement within the programme. Supplementary online courses have been developed and are offered to the students to facilitate their learning journey. Under the OULMS, essential readings, additional readings, and multimedia resources will be provided to facilitate your learning, Journey.

Admission Requirements

A person seeking admission to the Programme of study leading to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management shall be required to have,

1. a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three (3) years duration (with a minimum of   ninety (90) course credits at SLQF Level 5 From a recognized university or any other equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

And

2. Should be a Teacher or a principal of a recognized school or an In-service Teacher Advisor or a Teacher Educator or an Officer in the Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Services (SLEAS) or an Officer in the Sri Lanka Principals’ Services (SLPS) or a fulltime member in the academic staff of a University, National College of Education, Technical Collage and Teachers’ Collage or a Manager of a Government Teacher Centre or a Lecturer in the National Institute of Education, or a Head of the recognized educational institution, or any other professional in the field of Education Administration and Management acceptable to the Senate of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Note:  If your degree is not from a recognized University in Sri Lanka or if it is from a Foreign Institution, or an Online Degree, a letter to prove that the Degree is recognized by the University Grant Commission. (The letter should mention that the Degree is recognized in Sri Lanka and the duration of the Foreign Degree is  at least three years .)

The programme is conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English media. Academic Activities are conducted only at Colombo Regional Center.

b)  Successfully completed any Foundation programme adding up to 60 credits at Level 1 and Level 2 offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or,

c)  Successfully completed an advanced certificate programme having 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2 offered by the Faculty of Management Studies of OUSL, or,

d)  Successfully completed an advanced certificate programme of OUSL having 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2, or,

e)  An equivalent or higher academic or professional qualification acceptable to the Senate

 AND

Other than the applicants in the category ‘c’ above will be subjected to a selection test administered by the Faculty of Management Studies if necessary.

The selection test comprises with three main parts:

1. Aptitude Test

2. General Knowledge Test

3. Communication Skills for Managers

The Department of Nursing of the Open University of Sri Lanka collaborating with Workforce Europe GmbH.to offer a short course in German Recognition for Sri Lankan Nurses. Workforce Europe GmbH in Germany is a government recognized nursing school.
