What Is Open & Distance Learning?
What: Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is an approach to teaching and learning that offers open and flexible access to learning opportunities to anyone, anywhere, and at any time.
Why: ODL is especially useful for potential students who are unable to access learning opportunities where they are provided. For these students, learning opportunities need to be offered where they are located, and provided at a time which best suits them and their circumstances. ODL also offers students choices in relation to entry and exit points, as well as selection of courses, making it particularity suitable for lifelong-long learners who wish to continue with their education while in employment or engaged with domestic work.
About Anuradhapura Regional Centre
The Anuradhapura Regional Centre of the Open University of Sri Lanka was established in December 2008, with the intention of fulfilling the higher educational needs of the citizens living in Anuradhapura District through Open and Distance learning methodology. Currently our center servers more than 2500 students by conducting many educational programmes leading to certificates, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate diplomas in the various fields such as arts, science, education, engineering, management and language studies.
We possess an auditorium which can be accommodated more than 250 students, two air conditioned computer laboratories, thirteen number of comfortable lecture rooms with multimedia and internet facilities and three examination halls.

Class Rooms
The ARC's thirteen classrooms offer a mix of classic and modern teaching methods, including Green Boards, white boards, LCD projectors with roll-down screens, and other amenities.
Library
Access to information is critical to maximizing an individual's potential. ARC has offered over 10,000 books as well as a magazines and newspapers. The Library has been digitized with all of the elements of a library management system owing to the interventions of information technology.
Computer Laboratory - ECL
The NAC and ECL Labs provide technology resources and opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning. Computer labs offer the most up-to-date technological equipment and services.
